Privacy policy
Last updated: October 3, 2026
This policy explains what PassTheCalcs (https://passthecalcs.com) collects when you use the site, why, who else handles it, and your choices. "We" and "us" mean PassTheCalcs.
In short: you can take the check without giving us your name or email. We use the Meta Pixel to measure our Facebook and Instagram ads. We never send your email, your answers or your score to Meta, and we do not sell your personal data.
What we collect when you use the site
When you use the site, even without giving us your email, we collect:
- Your answers. Whether each practice answer was right, how long it took, and the number (the "seed") that generated the question. Also your answers to the three short questions on the results page, if you answer them.
- A random ID. A random code stored in your browser (local storage or session storage), so we can count visits and finished checks without knowing who you are, plus a random code for each visit.
- How you got here. The campaign parameters in the link you clicked (such as utm_source and utm_campaign), the ad placement and ad ID if the link has them, the first page you opened, and the website that sent you (its domain only). If the link had a Meta click ID (fbclid), we record only that it was there, not the ID itself.
- How you use the site. Your language, the pages you open, and steps such as starting the check, finishing it and clicking the price button.
- Your device. The type of device (phone, tablet or computer), whether you are using an app's built-in browser, such as Facebook's or Instagram's, and whether the visit looks automated (a bot). We work these out from the user agent your browser sends and do not keep the user agent itself.
- Approximate location. Your approximate region (such as country and state), which our host, Cloudflare, works out from your IP address. We do not keep your IP address in our database. When you send a form, we keep a salted hash of it instead: a one-way code made with a secret key, used only to limit abuse such as spam sign-ups.
If you give us your email
If you ask for the worked solutions or join the waitlist, we also keep your email address, stored together with:
- Your score, your answers and your weakest topic.
- Your answers to the three short questions, if you gave them: which exam you are preparing for, when your exam is, and whether your employer pays for exam prep.
- Your language, how you got here (such as utm_source), and the device type and approximate location described above.
- Whether you joined the waitlist.
Why we use it
- To run the check, score it and show your results.
- To send the email you asked for, and trainer updates if you joined the waitlist.
- To see, in total numbers, which ads, languages and pages work, so we can decide whether to build the full trainer and what to put in it.
- To prevent abuse and fix problems.
Meta Pixel and cookies
We use the Meta Pixel, a tool from Meta Platforms, Inc. (Facebook and Instagram), to measure our ads. Third parties, including Meta, may use cookies, web beacons and similar technologies on this site to collect or receive information from this site and elsewhere on the internet, and use that information to provide measurement services and to target and deliver ads.
The pixel may set first-party cookies named _fbp and _fbc. When you arrive from a Meta ad, _fbc holds the ad's click ID. Meta also receives the standard information your browser sends, such as your IP address, browser type, the page address and the page that sent you.
We send Meta only these events:
- PageView: a page loaded.
- ViewContent: you started the check.
- Lead: you asked for the worked solutions by email (Meta learns that it happened, not your email).
- PriceClick: you clicked the trainer price.
Events may carry simple labels, such as the page language, but never personal details. We never send your email address, your answers or your score to Meta. Meta's Automatic Advanced Matching is turned off, and so is the pixel's automatic collection of button clicks and page details.
How to opt out
Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we do not load the Meta Pixel at all, so Meta receives nothing from this site. Our own analytics, described above, still run; they are not shared with Meta.
You can also opt out of interest-based ads:
- Use the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out tool at aboutads.info/choices.
- Change your ad preferences in Meta's Accounts Center, in your Facebook or Instagram settings.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
What we store in your browser
Apart from the Meta Pixel cookies above, we do not set cookies. To make the check work across pages, we keep a few items in your browser's local storage or session storage, such as the random ID, your language, how you got here, your progress in the check and your email address, if you gave it. You can clear them anytime in your browser settings.
Who else handles your data
We use a few service providers:
- Cloudflare hosts the site, runs our server code and stores our database. It handles your IP address to deliver and protect the site.
- Loops stores your email address and some of the details listed above (such as your language and score), and sends our emails.
- Meta receives the pixel data described above and uses it under its own terms and policies.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires it. Data may be processed in the United States and in other countries where these providers operate.
Emails
If you enter your email for the worked solutions, we send you one email with your solutions and practice problems. It does not sign you up for anything else.
We send updates about the trainer only if you join the waitlist.
Every email has an unsubscribe link. Once you unsubscribe, we never email you again. If you take the check again later, you can still see the worked solutions on the page, but we will not email them.
How long we keep it
- Usage events (answers, timings, pages, how you got here): up to 24 months, then we delete them automatically.
- The salted hash of your IP address: 30 days, then we delete it.
- Your email address and the details stored with it: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. When you unsubscribe, we delete your contact at Loops and the other details stored with your address, and keep only the address, marked as unsubscribed, so we never email you again.
Your choices and rights
You can take the check without giving us your email, and the three short questions are optional.
You can ask for a copy of your personal data, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing passthecalcs@gmail.com. We will reply within 45 days.
Texas residents. The Texas Data Privacy and Security Act may give you the right to confirm whether we process your personal data, to access, correct or delete it, to get a copy, and to opt out of targeted advertising, the sale of personal data and certain profiling.
We honor these requests from anyone, wherever they live. If we turn down a request, you can appeal by replying to our email.
We do not sell personal data. To opt out of targeted advertising, use Global Privacy Control or the options under "How to opt out" above.
Children's privacy
This site is for adults preparing for a Texas electrician license exam. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal data, email passthecalcs@gmail.com and we will delete it.
Security
The site uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). Our secret keys stay on the server, and only the people who run PassTheCalcs and the providers listed above can access the data we store. No system is perfectly secure, so we collect as little as we can.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
